In this segment, we're going to clean the chain on the bicycle. After a few hundred
miles, the chain picks up a lot of road grime, and shifting gets more difficult, and you're
putting undue wear on the chain. Now there's a way to do it without taking the chain off
the bike. And I like that because it's convenient. Fill up the chain cleaner with chain cleaning
fluid. This is biodegradable fluid, which is nice. But you have to remember that what's
coming off your chain is not biodegradable. There's a lot of oil, grease and dirt in it.
Now, one thing that I've learned through trial and error, is that the first thing you do,
is you put down newspapers. Because you don't want your wife to come out and discover that
you've turned her driveway into an oily mess. The cleaner comes apart like this. The fluid
is in the upper reservoir. Just put it over your chain. Lock it down. And now we're going
to rotate the chain, and at the same time, we're going to push this button to allow the
fluid to go down through the reservoir, across the chain, the brushes and clean the chain.
And simply get a hose and some water, and clean this off. And it will be not quite as
good as new, but it will be a whole lot cleaner than when you started.
