We are joined in the studio by Tom Deacon, who is now known officially as The Eurofan,
He’s been to Turkey, he’s been to Russia, he’s been to Romania and now he’s here in Glasgow to experience a champions league tie between Celtic and Spartak Moscow.
You excited about this aren’t you?
Very excited. Do you know what. This morning when I woke up I was trying to work out whether Moscow was colder than Glasgow?
-Glasgow. -Glasgow, yep, that’s what I’m saying.
So here you are- you’re in Glasgow and you don’t have a ticket for the game.
No, no ticket. Waiting for people to tweet me @theeurofan.
If you can help Tom out with a ticket for tonight he will you’re bestest friend forever.
We’ll make it worth your while, I do good hugs.
A guy’s just sent in a text and apparently his boss might have a ticket for tonight.
It’s the beginning of my journey, I need to find some fans, I need to get hold of a ticket and I need to soak up the Celtic atmosphere.
It’s Tom Deacon here, the Eurofan.
My boss has a ticket, he offered it to me,
But I can’t go as I’ve got things on.
Alex, you’re an absolute star. Listen I will give Francis a call.
So I called Alex, he gave me a number for his boss, so I’m going to give him a call now.
[VOICEMAIL] Your call is being transferred. Please hold.
I’m not, I’m not feeling the hat actually,
That’s better.
Now in Buchanan Street, the middle of Glasgow, wandering around now with my scarf on now and my Celtic top.
Getting a few odd looks, I don’t know if they are Spartak fans or Rangers fans.
I met this man Dennis, nice to meet you.
You’ve said that I’m wearing quite obviously my Celtic colours, let’s have a look underneath.
You need to hide it a little bit more.
- At the beginning of the match, we hold up our scarves does that have a name? -Yeah.
It’s just like, we hold them up when we sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’
*You’ll never walk….*
So you’ll get that in the chest a little bit?
Yeah, you get a lump in your throat and then your scarf is held above your head.
It’s like food, I’m salivating.
Are you going to tonight’s match?
-Well I’m looking for a ticket myself. I’ve got like a... -Here’s another man looking for a ticket.
Yeah, of course. I’m sure that there will be a few people in Glasgow looking today to get tickets.
[VOICEMAIL] The person you’re calling is unable to take your call.
I’m gonna leave him a little message.
[VOICEMAIL] Please leave your message after the tone.
Hey there Franics. I’m still trying to get hold of you to see if you’ve got this ticket, and in the background you should be able to hear a saxophone so I was playing that for you,
because that’s how I’m feeling at the moment.
Anyone who’s trying to sell them will have their hand up like that.
Wicked, alright have a good one, take it easy.
Come on Francis, come on. Fingers crossed, eh?
[VOICEMAIL] Welcome to the o2 messaging service.
I'm not even going to leave a voicemail.
Right, we’re resorting to this, Celtic ticket.
You haven’t got a spare ticket for the game tonight have you?
Spare… Do you have one? You might? No, ok. I thought she might because she’s wearing the colours so.
Celtic ticket.
Ladies, you don’t have a spare ticket for tonight’s game do you?
Fellas, lads, you don’t have a spare ticket for tonight, do you?
I haven’t given up all hope yet, but thank you very much.
Whoa….. The Eurofan.
-Listen, where you boys heading now before the game? -Probably up towards the Gallowgate direction.
And what’s the atmosphere going to be like, because I’ve never been to a Celtic match?
-It’ll be rocking . -It’ll be jumping .
You could have done it in London. You’ll be able to hear it down in London.
I’m looking for a spare ticket, hence this, is this going to happen?
You’ll never gonna believe this. If I can get hold of Calvin Ross, I can probably get you one. If he hasn’t got it, I won’t be able to do anything for you. Alright?
-He’s not answering. -We were that close.
I haven’t got one. Did you manage to get one?
You’ve got me a ticket! That’s amazing.
Bye George, bye bye.
-Sorry, whose this? -Seamus. Yeah two tickets.
-Two tickets? -Yep.
Alright, cheers Seamus, thank you very much fella.
-Alright. -Bye bye.
Two people have called at the same time saying they’ve got tickets for me, this is an absolute result.
So now I was thinking I met this guy called Dennis earlier. Maybe he still needs a ticket.
There is no need whatsoever of this sign anymore, I am going to be in there to watch Celtic play Spartak Moscow. Get in there!
Hey Dennis, it’s Tom Deacon here, the Eurofan.
-I’ve got myself an extra ticket. -I will happily take that ticket of you.
Alright then, well that’s sweet.
Arrrr…. Isn’t that nice.
-Can I get a battered mars bar please? -Yes.
Thank you.
-Do you want to come round and do it yourself? -I would genuinely love to, is that alright?
Pick it up, shake it and drop it in, right in, let it go.
-That’s the first thing I have ever battered. -Is that right.
-Never battered anybody before? -No.
Ok battered it myself, time to taste it.
Perfection.
Ok so this morning I was on Real Radio trying to see if anyone could help me on the Eurofan journey .
This man Seamus got involved and we are now in Gallowgate.
You’re going to get me a ticket for the game, we’re in the heart of it. This is where it all…
Yeah, this is where the fans go before the game.
[CROWD SINGING]
*Glasgow’s green and white, Glasgow’s green and white*
-My boy there, right, his baby in hospital having a baby due in Oxford in England. -Yeah.
I just had a phone call, she’s having contractions and he’s here watching the Celtic.
I’d rather be here than there anyway, put it that way.
If you come to Gallowgate for any game at all, it’ll be like this, any game at all. Parkhead is something, you can’t even explain it. It will rock
When I was in Buchanan Street I was heading up there, I bumped into this fella and got chatting to him, he said he was looking for a ticket, so was I.
-How happy does this make you? -I’ve been looking forward to going to this game for so long.
*You’ll never walk alone.*
-Outside Celtic Park aka Paradise, Liam, pleasure to meet you sir. -Good to meet you meet you.
Thank you very much, Liam has left me comments on my YouTube video of the Eurofan.
George, get in here, now I happen to be a Saints fan, who’s come along tonight to see what it’s like to be a Celtic fan.
But listen, because you’ve been amazing, getting in contact with the Eurofan and leaving me a comment, I am going to give you a Saints shirt.
You get in there, keep commenting and obviously mate subscribe to Copa90.
This is the man, Liam, George enjoy the game.
-Will do. -Get in there.
[CROWD SINGING]
*Na, na, na, na- na,na,na,na, hey hey hey, Glasgow Celtic.*
Celtic just let in a goal, changed it, just look at them.
It’s alright, it’s going to be fine, as it stands Celtic are not going through.
It’s getting close. There are 10 minutes left of normal time.
Samaras went down in the box. Boom- it’s a penalty. Come on Celtic.
What a time to get a penalty, still don’t know what the Benfica score is. I reckon it’s nil nil.
Celtic have done it, they are through to the knock out stages.
*Wembley, Wembley, we’re the famous Glasgow Celtic and we’re off to Wembley, Wembley.*
So back in Baird’s Bar and what an experience it’s been for the Eurofan, didn’t have a ticket at the beginning, managed to get into the game.
Managed to see Celtic see Spartak Moscow. They are now through to the last 16.
So the Eurofan’s journey, three wins, one draw and two losses.
That means 10 points, most teams would probably finish about second.
I could be going to see Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Man Utd, you know the rest, if you want to join me on my journey all you have to do is subscribe to Copa90.
