Hello everyone, this is Max and welcome for this Dota 2’s character introduction video.
Today we will talk about a sweet young woman who “goes like the wind”,
I’m referring to Windrunner,
alias Alleria.
Windrunner is a polyvalent intelligence hero who got a stun, a nuke, an escape and an ultimate really useful to push.
She can be played support, solo lane or even as a carry, which make her some kind of Swiss army knife if well used.
Be careful though, her skills need to be precise and a good vision of the game, she isn’t that easy to play.
Shackleshot is Windrunner’s first spell.
It gives you the possibility to stun an enemy by attaching him to a tree,
a creep or one of his allies at less than 525 range behind her.
The range of the spell is 600 and the stun duration goes from 1.5 seconds at level 1 to 3.75 seconds at max level.
If your target isn’t attached to something, the stun will only lasts 0.75 seconds.
Important thing here : the element which your target is attached to is also stunned.
Of course we’re only talking about creeps and heroes here,
WE ARE AWARE THAT TREES CAN’T BE STUNNED !
Powershot, Windrunner’s second skill, is her main damage burst.
It’s the best harass tool that she gets.
It’s a channeling spell that can be released before the end of the channel, damage will be less important though.
The range of the spell is 1825, and the damage goes from 120 to 360 at max level,
which gives her a good ability to farm in a secure way considering the high range of this ability.
Damage are reduced by 10% for each additional target and the arrow destroys trees on its path.
This spell is one of the best nuke of the game, so remember the one that sows the wind shall reap the whirlwind.
Windrun is Alleria’s third ability.
It’s a good way to escape if you’re facing a dangerous situation
since it increases your movement speed by 50% and evasion by 100%
for a duration that goes from 2.75 seconds at level 1 to 5 seconds at max level.
It will enable you to dash out, and slows enemies in Windrunner’s track by 30% at max level.
Focus Fire is Windrunner’s ultimate.
And because after a calm comes a storm,
it increases her attack speed at the maximum possible on a specific target (hero or building) during 20 seconds.
On the other hand, all your auto attacks damage will be reduced by 30%.
If you switch target, you lose the ult bonus, but retrieve it if you switch back.
This skill is really useful to destroy towers and barracks,
as well as to kill heroes with a lot of HPs when you have the correct stuff.
Aghanim’s Scepter reduces the cooldown to 15 seconds
and reinstate the damage of secondary items like Cranium Basher, Mjollnir, etc. to their maximum.
Let’s talk about Windrunner’s skill order now.
Take a first point of Windrun which will enable you to get out of dangerous situations by level 1
if you’re ganked for example, or if you do a mistake.
You can take a Shackleshot at level 2 or 3 in a trilane
to have a better cc of the opponent for your carry and who knows, to maybe offer a first blood.
Then, upgrade first your Powershot, to have a good lane harass possibility
and to be able to farm easily thanks to its range.
The rest depends on the game, but it’s a good idea to upgrade Shackleshot to increase its duration.
Once Powershot is at max level and the game in a advanced stage,
you can take some levels of Focus Fire to destroy turrets.
If you’re playing as a support or if your team doesn’t have a lot of stuns,
upgrade your Shackleshot before the Powershot.
It’s one of the best stuns of the game since it can stun two heroes at the same time,
a good Shackleshot at the beginning of a team fight can be decisive in 90% of the situations.
Let’s talk about the equipment now !
If you’re a solo laner, take a Tango, 2 Healing Salve, a Mantle of Intelligence and 3 Iron Branches.
This starter gives good regeneration and stats to survive in the laning phase.
You can then use the Branches to build a Magic Wand, and the Mantle can be upgraded in Null Talisman.
If you’re a support, you’ll have to buy wards in addition to your stuff.
Take a little bit of Intelligence, some regen and the Courier as a starter then.
If someone already bought the Courier, take some Observer Wards.
Buy Boots of Speed as soon as possible,
upgrade your Mantle in Null Talisman if it’s not already done
and never forget to always have a Town Portal Scroll and some Observer Wards in your stuff.
As a support or a solo laner, Arcane Boots are more and more used with Windrunner
because she will build items for the team like Mekansm or Pipe of Insight.
She will then need some more mana to use all those items, but if you prefer you can buy Phase Boots.
Once you’ve bought Mekansm, build a Force Staff as fast as you can, it’s an excellent item on Alleria.
Windrun + Force Staff + Phase Boots = Sonic the Hedgehog
you’ll be impossible to catch.
Plus you’ll be able to place yourself as you wish to use Shackleshot, which is very very useful.
If no one in your team built a Pipe of Insight, then go ahead, it’s a really good item.
Maelstrom can also be a good choice for the damage output
and the Mjollnir upgrade giving the Chain Lightning active.
Blademail can come in handy in tough situations, and especially if you’re focused by melee characters.
It’s a good defensive items against all odds.
Once your core build is in your possession,
don’t forget to buy Wards, Dusts of Appearence, Smokes of Deceit that could be additional assets.
Upcoming items are just a bonus but can be useful (or fun) if you have enough money to buy those.
Scythe of Vyze will give you one more disable in team fights
and will make it easier for your team to kill some tenacious opponents,
especially those who got escape mechanisms.
If you’ve read Windrunner’s ultimate description, I’m sure you’ll get why Desolator can be interesting on her.
If you still have some free slots, you can also add a Monkey King Bar or a Daedalus,
those items only being some more material to have fun in public games.
As said before, upgrading a Maelstrom into a Mjollnir can also be fun.
Just remember to keep enough money for an eventual Buy Back which will make you respawn instantly.
So be careful if you build bonus items :D !
Here we are, it’s over for Alleria.
