Okay so before you load your kiln you're going to need to gather together everything that
you need. All of your kiln furniture is what it's called. These are the things that you're
going to stack up in the kiln to load your pots on top of. And the way that they work
is first you've got these stilts that you'll place in three points on each shelf. They'll
hold the shelf up. Then you're going to need to have kiln shelves. These are going to be
about the width of your kiln. Mine is split in two so I've got halves. They need to be
covered in kiln wash which we'll be addressing a little bit later. The purpose of this substance
is to protect the shelf in case of glaze running onto the shelf. It also protects your pot.
It's a little bit more work in the beginning but it saves you a lot of time in the end.
It's definitely worth while. Next you have a bunch of little items that can separate
plates from each other within the same shelf so that you don't have to use quite as many
shelves. These come in a variety of sizes and styles. They are, most of them you need
to make sure that they can go to high fire temperatures if you're firing high fire. Most
of them can. And once you've got all this stuff together you're ready to load the kiln.
