Hello and welcome to the monthly E-com Italian videocast.
We're arrived in January and thus: "Happy New Year!", or, in Italian "Buon Anno!".
Well, in fact this month we'll talk about Capodanno(New Year), in other words about how Italians celebrate this new year.
Whereas for the cultural topic, we'll talk about the favourite foods of Italians.
Keep watching to find out.
Well, now we'll talk about Capodanno.
Yes, because Italians on the day before the end of the year, so between the day the year finishes and just before the start of the new one,
therefore, just before it strikes midnight, Italians go out into the plaza to have fun and celebrate together.
They open bottles of champagne, they are all together,
they party and and wish an early Happy New Year to all the people they meet.
If you happen to be in Italy for the start of the New Year, try to get out into a plaza and you will surely have fun.
While the next day, so the actual New Year's Day, is traditionally celebrated with the whole family.
We gather all together to eat. But what do we eat?
Of course, the typical dish of the New Year, which is le lenticchie(lentils).
Le lenticchie, in fact, are these little legumes which we see here that are green, more or less,
and they are always accompanied by il cotechino, which is a type of pork sausage.
In addition to being very good, it is also a symbol of good luck and wealth.
And it is for this reason precisely that on New Year's Day we eat le lenticchie with il cotechino,
so by eating this dish, you can have a wonderful year full of luck, happiness
and why not? also lots of money.
All right, and now let's talk about the favourite food of Italians.
Like everyone in the world knows, Italians eat pasta,
but perhaps not everyone knows that we Italians eat pasta every day.
That's right, every single day.
With tomato sauce or with other types of sauces.
But, every day (at lunch) we definitely eat pasta
and perhaps accompanied with a good glass of wine (why not?).
Because we Italians like to drink at least one glass of wine every day, usually at dinner, but why not?
at lunch as well, of course, only when we're not working.
But, with regard to, let's say, other favourite drinks of the Italians, there is definitely cappuccino and espresso.
You usually drink cappuccino in the morning.
In the morning, you go to the (coffee) bar, have a cappuccino, if possible accompanied by a nice croissant.
What is cappuccino? Well... it's this.
It is a coffee with hot heavy cream poured in so as to be able to form these beautiful designs.
And besides being very beautiful, it is certainly very good, so be sure to try it.
Well, you drink cappuccino in the morning, but you can drink espresso at any time of the day,
espresso that we Italians usually drink after lunch or after dinner, so always after eating, with a lot of sugar.
Two, three teaspoons, as you like, more or less,
because this way, after the meal you can eat something sweet and you do not need dessert.
If you have some...
So, what did you think of this video? Was it interesting?
