black President over the arc of 500 years. I assembled forty historians, and so we asked
them, 'If you were picking ten stories that were indispensable for each of the following
six chronological periods, what would those ten stories be?' And we came up with a thousand
different stories. So I sat with this list for a couple years, and we debated, and then
you have to decide what is filmable. What story you can actually make interesting. And
we came up with 70 stories. And we told those 70 stories over a six-hour period.
