Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment, we're going to learn all about how to grow
phlox drummondii. It's a beautiful variety of phlox, that's very fragrant, it's a beautiful
garden flower from Texas. So Texas is right on the border with Mexico. So most of the
areas of Texas are really hot and very dry. Not humid at all. And there's some mountainous
areas in the northern part that actually get some frost too. So a lot of the phlox can
handle a little bit of frost, but not truly cold, cold temperatures. So when you're growing
phlox, make sure and put them in a really sunny, hot spot, and don't give them too much
water. They need water to grow, but if they sit in water for any amount of time, you'll
lose them. So they're really an easy plant to grow as long as you put them in sun and
give them a lot of dry heat. So now phlox drummondii, which is an annual phlox, grows
quickly to a bushy, about fifteen inches, a little over a foot in heighth, half that
in spread. In the summer and the fall, it makes beautiful, tight clustered, small, flat
flowers with five petals. They come in reds, in pinks, and purples and creams. And they
have light green leaves, and they are frost resistant, so they can handle quite a bit
of cold temperature. And there's different types of varieties, and they all have star
like flowers. And very, very fragrant. and they're hardy from zones six to ten. So even
in colder climates, if you get some frost, all the way down to zone six, they will survive.
So phlox drummondii is a beautiful fragrant flower for your garden.
