The PLU library has lots of resources to help you with your research but we don't have everything
that's where ILL comes in. Interlibrary loan is as a free service for students faculty
and staff at the university. The ILL teams submits requests for items from
around the state, around the country, and around the world, to bring you journal articles books
and other publications that we don't own. If you've never used interlibrary loan, the
first step is to visit the library's website and click on the Interlibrary Loan Link in
the black navigation bar. This will take you to the ILL home page where you can create
a new account or log back in on a return visit. There's also contact information for the department
if you have questions. Remember that your ILL account is a separate username and password
from your ePass. When to have an account you can login and
check the status of your request. You can also submit a new request for either an article
or a book using the online form. Realize that while only a few of the fields are required,
the more information you can provide the better. There is an even easier ways to submit a request.
For example, if the book you're looking for isn't in the PLU Library or if you just want
to see what books other libraries have on a particular subject, all you have to do is
change the limits to "Libraries Worldwide" in the drop down menu and rerun your search.
Once you find the item you're looking for just open up the record and look for the "Request
item through Interlibrary Loan" button. If you aren't already logged in, you'll be
prompted to enter your ILL account information and then all of the information from the catalog
record well automatically appear in the form. All you have to do is scroll down, make sure
it looks right, and click the submit a request - it's that easy
It works the same way for articles. For example, if you're in an EBSCO database and you don't
see the full text or pdf icon, just look for the link that says "Check PLU Library for
full text." If the library has electronic full-text or even a print copy it will be
listed at the top of the page. If not, click on the "Order from Interlibrary Loan" link,
login and submit your request. Articles will generally be delivered electronically
to your PLU email account. You'll also receive notification by email when your books arrive
just pick them up from the ILL shelf near the lobby and take them to the circulation
desk for checkout There are a few more important things to know
that about ILL before you get started. First there are some types of items of students
generally can't borrow. These include DVDs, textbooks, and theses or dissertations.
Second, don't wait until the last minute to submit your an ILL requests - plan ahead as
it can sometimes take a week or two for the items to arrive.
Finally, if you have any questions stop by the service desk and will be happy to help
