In this tutorial you and your team members will evaluate two web sites.
Start by taking a look at the two web sites provided by librarians that are on the library guide. On the library guide
go to library sessions and scroll down to the box that says evaluating websites. You're going to
compare two websites that are on the same topic which is about carbon footprints. One website is
called the Global Footprint Network and the other one is called Carbon Footprints Factsheets.
When you review these, each team should answer these questions about the two websites.
The questions on your handout should remind you of the CRAAP criteria which we reviewed in the previous tutorial.
When was each website published or last updated? Who is the intended audience? Who is the author
or the source of the information and do they have any qualifications to write about that topic?
What does the URL reveal, if anything, about the author or source? Is the information supported
by evidence and if so what is the evidence? Then based on your evaluation of each web site
rate each website from one to four where four would be a very reliable web site and one would
be very unreliable. After you've evaluated this, which one would be the survivor? Which website would
survive if you were working on this, and you were going to cite one of these websites for a
research paper? We're going to debrief on that next If you need help, contact us at library.boisestate.edu
