-What makes you happy in life?
-What makes us happy in life?
-Hello, everyone.
This is Jerry here, and today I'm
going to be exploring what makes people happy.
-Something that makes me happy it's
like, waking up on a Sunday morning and just like,
getting brunch.
-What brings me happiness is a sense of accomplishment.
-Family.
-Yeah.
I think family.
-My family.
-Today my parents are here.
They haven't visited on a day like this in a while.
-A good sleep.
-Building things.
-I truly love Barry Manilow.
-Something that's within myself whenever I decide to be happy.
-Having a purpose every day.
-I was just having a talk with my friend yesterday about this.
-Having nice weather.
-It's fall, which is my favorite season.
-Everything in control.
-Just being with people we love.
-Being with my family and my friends, and dancing.
I'm a dancer.
-My sister goes to NYU, and then their two younger ones,
and they all have been to Barry Manilow concerts.
-Discovering new things, like learning things
that are new to me.
-Not setting an alarm in the morning,
and then like, waking up on your own.
That's nice.
-This is actually my favorite thing from Philly.
I actually come back to Philly just
for this-- salmon bibimbaps.
-Eating when I'm really hungry, or seeing
a friend when I'm really lonely.
Or also kissing a woman when I'm really lonely.
Like, these unity things in the world.
-Just finding happiness in everyday things.
-For example, pizza.
-Yeah, this is our daughter's first time she's eating pizza.
It doesn't mean anything to anybody else,
but to us it's exciting.
-When I'm just like, listening to a song that you like.
-Yeah.
A little bit of Chopin, perhaps.
-I play lacrosse here, so being with my teammates every day
and playing a sport I love really makes me happy, also.
-Personal favorite, "What A Wonderful World."
-Oh, that's a great one.
Always makes me feel happy.
-Do you think Barry Manilow looks like Rod Stewart?
-A little bit.
-A little bit, right?
-A little bit.
-To be with my family.
To be blessed that I have them all together, healthy.
-Traveling makes me happy.
-Running into people.
-Yeah, running into people that you like,
otherwise would not have seen.
-And hanging out with people you like.
-When things finally make sense to me.
-Going your own path.
-So I'm going to ask the big C question.
What about career?
How much does that contribute to your happiness?
-That's a hard question to answer.
-I'm marketing in Wharton.
-So do you think that's going to make you happy?
-Yeah, I think so.
I think my business experience will open a lot of doors.
-Hopefully I'll be a doctor.
So--
-And you think being a doctor's gonna bring you happiness, too?
-I do.
Yeah.
-I work in education, so seeing the success of the students
I work with makes life worth living.
-You definitely have the marketing stare.
-Thank you.
-You've learned something here, right?
-That's right.
-Yeah, I really like the business route I'm doing now,
but taking finance is making me reconsider it right now.
-I think there's definitely a balance in between.
-I do want to dance for the rest of my life.
It's not what I want to do as a profession,
but I think it'll always be something I do.
-I'm about to start being a lawyer at a big law firm.
I don't think it's a career you can
do if you're not passionate about.
It'll drive you absolutely insane.
And so thankfully I am really excited to be
doing what I'll be doing.
-Balance.
You have to have a balance of life and work.
If you're all work, you're not gonna have any fun.
If you're all fun, you're not gonna have any purpose.
-What I found was I just like talking to people more,
and interacting with them.
That was something that was sort of missing from what
I was doing, and so even switching early on,
I found like, that made me more happy.
-If there was someone who's kind of a little sad,
what would you recommend to them?
-You gotta find your own unhappiness.
-Yeah.
Find out what makes you sad, and try
to accept it, and look at the positive side.
-Figure out their interests, and what really makes them happy,
close to where they are, and finding
some kind of community that's, you know, available.
-I think they should look at what other people have,
and they wouldn't trade it, they would keep what they have.
-It's really, I think, something that
has to come from within people to be happy.
-Think about the relative importance
of what you're complaining about,
and think of if you could do anything to change it.
Because if you're not doing anything
to change what you're unhappy about,
then stop complaining about it.
-And then they would realize that their life is not
so terrible.
-Happiness may not be this thing you can seek out, or chase.
-Find joy in every day, and try to make other people happy.
-Try to laugh a couple times a day.
Makes everybody around you that much happier, and makes
your life that much easier to get through.
-The key is yourself.
-Find something that really makes you happy to do.
Like, it could be anything.
It could be dancing, it can be, you know,
any kind of expression, or something like that.
But just find something that really makes you happy,
and makes you want to get out of bed.
