Okay so,
to continue off
em?
from what I was saying
em?
the guy on YouTube
that kind of lost the plot
the reason I found it funny
was because
that article
almost kind of proved
the point
well it hasn't really, but you get what I'm saying
em?
the guy is basically giving off the image that
we are aggressive and stuff like that, it's not like that
it's
it's the same in any country, if you insult people
if you give out, you're only going to get it back
I mean what comes around goes around, you know?
it just depends on how
some people
take it
I just thought it was funny how that guy took it, you know?
em?
he was pretty pissed off
but
I mean
the media think
us Scottish folk
I don't know, it's
it's like they seem to think we talk like Fat ***
or we talk like em?
from what they see in films, you know?
em?
it's
so far off it's unreal
it's comedy though, you know?
it is comedy
em? But
what can you do about it?
well all you can do is
is make a video
get your accent out there and
prove a point that we don't sound anything at all like that, you know?
we don't sound like Fat ***
we don't sound like...
and it's most important to say
we don't sound like those celebrities
the closest you get is Gerard
Gerard Butler, you know?
Gerard Butler
that famous Scottish actor, but even with him
he's got
a slight American tinge to his accent
and you can tell that, if you listen closely to him
and you listen closely to myself, you'll hear the difference
you'll hear a very strong difference, plus the fact he will for the sake of being on
you know, being on television or whatever, being interviewed
etc
he will
talk more proper English
it's not that Scots don't talk proper English, because there are a lot of Scots
that do talk proper English
and there's nothing wrong with it
the only people that seem to think
there's something wrong with Scots that talk proper English are what you call
troubled youth, neds, you know?
it's just... it's stupid
it is stupid
anyway
with
with the way
we talk
the best way to actually
if someone was trying to learn the Scottish accent
I wouldn't
go looking at celebrities that are Scottish, I mean
people that say that Sean Connory or
or Ewan McGregor
they don't sound anything at all like your typical Scot
they don't
they just don't, I've got nothing against them, I think they're fan... well
Sean Connory is, he's
a fantastic actor and stuff like that, but
they don't sound anything at all Scottish
perhaps that's just the way they
put on for the sake of television or whatever for the sake of media
and the media pick up
so wrong that they
dish out to the, you know
they dish out
these countries seem to think that we
we sound like fat ***
it's ridiculous
I find it funny though
eh?
going back to about the accents and that,
you know?
I love, the different accents
different from myself, to me
I just sound normal
I don't see anything in my accent
I'm so used to hearing it
I hear it outside, I've heard it my entire life
as Americans call their accent boring,
I would say that about
my own accent, you know
it's a breath of fresh air to hear different
accents
em?
I think
one of the prime examples
there's an example of when I went into a shop
and I over heard
an American sort of lassie (girl) talking,
you know?
to me, I was drawn to it
I was drawn to it because it's just so different
it's entirely different
it's something words
just cannot describe, I just loved it you know?
I just loved the accent
I loved
the way
words were pronounced, I mean
an example
they don't say 'Scotland'
and we most certainly do not talk like 'Scoatland' you know, we don't say
'Scoatland'
it's 'Scotland'
but in America, the way they say
Scotland, is like 'Scatland' and you know I'm not going to pull off the American accent
because I'd
look like a complete ***, okay
I'm not
I'm not willing to sit and pull off some
you know American accent, I mean it does take a lot of confidence
to sit
in front of a camera
and talk
with a different accent, that takes balls
it does, it takes
it takes guts, you know?
You've got to have the courage
em? because you know
there are people
who are from that country or whatever
and they'll sit
and laugh at your, well...
they'll laugh at the fact that you can't pull it off if you don't you know, so
when I seen a lassie (girl)
from Scotland
she's got
a very strong accent
eh?
she's got a very strong
Glaswegian accent
I'm sure it's Glaswegian and
she pulled off this American accent and
I was like wow
eh?
if that person like
spoke to me in person
and pulled
that accent off, I wouldn't know
that she's Scottish
but if she done it over in America
then perhaps they would know the slight differences, you know?
anyway
to me
it's something that
that I took a great
interest to
because I'm a person that loves
the outside world
there are some people that
are more
keep them more to themselves
I just... I love
seeing different people
seeing different people, I mean that's
it's what
to me it's what the world is all about
it's what the world is all about
eh? it's...
it's nice
eh?
being able to communicate
and you know
and have new relations with people that
are just not from your culture
not from your country
don't speak the same and sound different
and it's just something I took interest to, you know?
