My name is Martin Ruge von Löw,
I'm head of Fotolia Germany
and I'm very happy to be opening the fifth exhibition at FotoliaLAB today.
Together with DOCMA we are presenting
the winners of the DOCMA Award 2013.
I'm Christoph from DOCMA,
I'm pleased to be here with Fotolia, in the Fotolia lab,
where you will find this wonderful studio exhibition
of the ten winning pictures
of the 2013 DOCMA Award.
These ten pictures
were chosen by a jury
from 1493 submitted works which dealt with the subject
"Nature images - more beautiful than the truth".
Unlike our previous awards
these pictures were judged purely on applied aesthetical criteria.
Which means: How can nature appear in a picture
regardless of how it was created.
We have here ten works,
almost all of which
have been digitally enhanced.
They are photos, 3D pictures and photoshopped images.
The picture behind me
won the first prize in the category "Professional participants" -
the award is divided into three categories.
"A mouse in flight"
this image for example was created using three templates:
a nature shot,
a bird exhibited in a museum
and a mouse exhibited in a museum,
re-illuminated directly in the museum by the artist
to fit in this setting.
The exhibition is a touring exhibition.
First we've exhibited the pictures in Zingst,
now they are being displayed at Fotolia in Berlin,
and we will probably show them in Stuttgart
and Hamburg this year, too -
so we are very pleased that they can be seen live
by so many more people now,
because the on-screen view can only show a small part
of what can be seen on a printed version.
