MRE is MR Enterography. And there are specific pulse sequences, or imaging protocols for
MRI to image the small bowel, the bowel in between, or the intestine in between the stomach
and the colon. And it’s a particularly useful tool for patients with inflammatory bowel
disease, or other bowel problems. MR Enterography is, it utilizes MRI technology to image small
bowel, the intestine in between the stomach and the colon. Many people are afflicted with
inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, Colitis, and they’re routinely imaged with
CT, which is a really good test, particularly when they’re very sick. But when you’re
not very sick and you’re looking for elective imaging, MR provides an excellent solution
for this. MR Enterography is an exceptionally elegant tool at imaging the small bowel. And
there is good evidence for at least a decade now showing it’s as good as CT with at least
the benefits of, not using radiation to acquire the images. The type of patient that we would
foresee having an enterography, the similar patients, the younger patients, patients that
have abdominal pain or carry a diagnosis of, Colitis or Crohn’s. But are not acutely
unwell, they’re not very sick, they don’t need to be in the hospital, they’re just
having grumbling symptoms, or they just want it, for that matter, the physicians or doctors
want to see the status or the degree of inflammation of their bowel. And rather than using CT,
which again if someone’s really sick is a good test, but rather than using CT with
its radiation, MR Enterography provides equivalent images again without, ionizing radiation.
