ROBOTS TAKE THE CLASSROOM
Robotics in the school
The "Robotics in the school" project is the result of the decision...
...of Zaragoza City of Knowledge Foundation and Ibercaja Bank...
...to provide robotic activities to school children.
They contacted us (Aragonese Association of High Habilities) to schedule...
...to provide content and monitors for the activities.
We have also made several sessions in Ibercaja Zentrum, focused to great groups, like robotics exhibitions.
It is demonstrated that robotics, especially at early ages ...
...(and perhaps we have been innovative in that direction with this project)...
...helps to develop other skills that complement...
...everything that children do usually in the classroom.
We plan workshops, so that children build robots...
...and then learn how to program them.
Programming is just tidyng ideas we have,...
...what we want to do the robots.
Programming is basically logical thinking, a lot of maths...
...and trying that children structure what they need to do.
When we are seeing that they have taken a bit of experience, they begin to use Scratch.
Scratch has the advantage that it is a free software that can be downloaded at children's home.
It is a program that also greatly enhances logical thinking.
It makes kids having to think about actions, their sequences...
...and this is what sometimes gives them more problems.
The truth is that it is a fairly original, innovative activity.
The activity usually likes much to the kids, and that's always rewarding.
I think this has enough contributions in the pedagogical sense.
This has much to do with the content and skills...
...developed in the elementary school.
To program the kids need to handle a bit of math...
...(some coordinate, operations, variables...).
I think the activity provides that point of motivation...
...so hard to get sometimes.
I find it quite interesting.
The Foundation has always worked in supporting all that is culture of innovation...
...and technology-based entrepreneurship.
We believe that we are reaching a technological society, a knowledge society.
And we believe that, in the end, there are some basic skills...
...so that people can thrive in their daily lives.
Taking the classroom by robots is an excuse...
...to learn to develop a range of skills.
In the end, we have planted a small seed in different schools that we want to continue developing.
goodbye!!
