One of the strongest storms ever Super Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the Philippines yesterday.
Communication lines are down, roads are blocked, and wide devastation is expected. At least
three people have been killed. Next, it's expected to head towards Vietnam.
Iran and the six world powers, including the US, are expected to announce a deal today
on Iran's controversial nuclear program. If it goes through, Iran would have to halt the
advanced parts of its nuclear program. In return, the international community would
ease crippling economic sanctions its imposed. US Sec. of State John Kerry will be in Geneva
today.
The Senate approved a ban on workplace discrimination based on *** orientation or gender identity.
It's the first time Congress has included gays and lesbians in the nondiscrimination
law. The bill still needs to be passed by the House of Representatives.
President Obama has apologized for the fact that some Americans are losing their health
insurance after his repeatedly having said people "could keep their insurance" under
the Affordable Care Act. Obama told NBC's Chuck Todd, ''I am sorry that they are finding
themselves in this situation."
Outgoing mayor Mike Bloomberg will offer six-figure salaried jobs to the cops currently assigned
to his security detail once he leaves office, a move that some say is meant to "keep their
mouths shut."
Twitter stock surged nearly 73% to $44.90 on its first day of trading on the New York
Stock Exchange. The company now is valued at $24 billion, making it worth more than
Kellogg, Delta or Mattel. Some think its multi-billion dollar valuation is ridiculous and a warning
sign of a new tech bubble.
The FDA took the first step toward eliminating artificial trans fats in foods, saying that
partially hydrogenated oils are not "generally recognized as safe." The oils can be found
in many processed foods, including desserts and coffee creamer. According to the FDA,
eliminating trans fats could potentially prevent about 20,000 heart attacks and 7,000 deaths
a year
Scientists have discovered that coffee is most effective between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
They say it's because of the way caffeine interacts with a hormone called cortisol.
Asteroid strikes similar in size to the explosion over Russia in February may be ten times more
likely to happen than previously thought.

Mike Tyson's new autobiography, Undisputed Truth, is slated to hit shelves Nov. 12. In
the book, Tyson claims he was still sexually active while behind bars, luring visitors
and drug counselors.
The Miami Dolphins Jonathan Martin offensive lineman left the team last week over allegations
of bullying. Veteran offensive guard, Richie Incognito, was suspended amid reports of racist
and threatening emails sent to Martin and alleged disdain for rookies. Teammates of
the two came to the defense of Incognito yesterday and questioned Martin's motives.
Tom Cruise has admitted in a court deposition that his ex-wife, actress Katie Holmes fled
their marriage to protect their daughter Suri from Scientology. The deposition was sparked
by his $50 million defamation lawsuit against Life & Style and In Touch magazines for claiming
he'd "abandoned" his daughter.
