Is it bad if caffeine makes you tired? I didn’t even think it could.
Caffeine is a stimulant, but it has its limits.
Why would it make me tired?
You may be so tired that caffeine can’t offset your body’s need for sleep.
I drink so much caffeine that it shouldn’t leave me tired.
How much sleep are you getting? Some people drink so much caffeine day and night that
they can only sleep four and five hours a night.
I might get six hours in during the work week.
And drinking a lot of caffeine to get you going in the morning could lead to heavy doses
in the afternoon. Then the caffeine addiction leads to poor quality sleep, making you tired.
I do sleep in on weekends.
You can’t catch up on sleep more than one day at a time. And the dehydration can make
you tired, too.
How can I get dehydrated drinking coffee or soda?
Caffeine is a diuretic, causing your body to generate more urine to remove the caffeine.
Drinking mostly caffeinated drinks means you are dehydrated.
Which can make you tired.
Insufficient fluids means you are tired, and each dose of caffeine makes it worse. And
then there are people whose biochemistry causes it to have the opposite effect.
I’ve never heard of that.
Caffeine’s stimulating effect is sometimes offset by adenosine to restore the body to
normal, which makes people feel tired or sluggish.
And the cure is another cup of coffee.
Until you stop drinking it for the day, which gives you a bad case of jet lag.
And that cycle leads to drinking coffee all day until you finally crash.
And dehydration that adds to the lag.
Can you cut out the caffeine and get better?
Yes, though the caffeine withdrawal can cause horrible headaches.
At least pain pills can cure that, whereas the coffee I consume may be causing the fatigue
I intend it to cure.
