Hi, my name is P.A. Wilson and over the last 5 years I've published 9 books and I'm still
writing. On these videos, I'm going to share tips on what I've learned about the process
of getting a book from idea to a published work.
Let's talk about how to write a book critique. People think that writing is a solitary process
and that's true to some extent. The challenge is that when you need help, it's hard to find.
Even the most successful writers need feedback before they get into the deep edits and polish.
Finding a good critique partner can be a huge effort. Online services are available, but
often they have more business than they can handle.
When it comes to critiquing it is often about a partnership. You exchange critiques with
another writer you trust. The trick with giving critiques is to remember
three things. One, it's supposed to be about the work, not
about the person. Give useful craft advice. Two, it's okay to point out a problem for
the author to fix and suggest how you would fix it, but it's not usually okay to do a
rewrite of the work. Three, it's more important to give advice
than be kind. Be respectful, but don't hold back on giving feedback. It's what you are
there for after all. If you can't find a partner, or you are on
