We really decided that it wasn't worth trying to get up, break away early
because we knew that Greenhedge would pull it back for the sprints
There was no point doing that. To save the energy and try and survive
near the finale the later part of the race through the hill and
winds etc. And we had a target particularly for young Jack Haig to try and
hopefully jump himself on the young riders classification
and that is exactly what happened. The group split up the climb in the wind
and all the other young riders disappeared except Jack so
he now has the jersey and it is pretty safe as far as I can see
The ride was actually hard. At the start they really went hard out of
the gunup the highway there and then it was hard until the first
sprint cause Gerrans needed to get some time bonuses back. After that
the small break went and then there was another climb which l
led onto and exposed ridge maybe eighty kays to go and through
that exposed ridge there was a fair bit of cross winds and a quiet
a few people got dropped It was a small group that ended up staying
away to the finish and I managed to part of that group and take the
Young Riders Jersey. It wasn't an easy place to be gonna have the best
riders are there but he survived and none of the other riders did so
That was great I am pretty happy with that. It is probably the thing
I do best climbing. So I am hoping that I can get a good result
tomorrow on the hill and keep the Young Riders Jersey. He would
have to fall off to lose it. Done Deal. Like he is seven minutes in
front of second bloke We just have to survive to win that jersey. So
that is a bonus for the week so far. But it is going to come down
the race up Willunga twice and we just gotta make sure he is there,
he doesn't miss the group. We got to look after him and keep him there.
And that is what we will do.
