Hi, I'm Jennifer Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to make
delicious traditional Thanksgiving Day stuffing for your turkey. For the making of our cornbread,
we first want to mix together all of the dry ingredients. Now this is important for a couple
of reasons, first of all, when you're adding baking powder to any dry ingredients, it's
important to get it mixed up thoroughly amongst the flour and sugar, because once add the
liquid ingredients it's going to want to combine with the liquid ingredients, and that's how
you get clumps. So, our first ingredient, is we're going to add flour. Now this is going
to take one cup of flour for our cornbread. And you want to scoop it but you don't want
it to be packed too tightly because then you're going to end up with more flour than you actually
need. I'm just going to spread that out a bit in the cup, and one cup of flour. Next,
we're going to have the cornmeal. Now there are a couple of different types of cornmeal
that you can get. Usually you can either find white cornmeal, or regular yellow cornmeal,
either one will do. White cornmeal is a little bit finer. But what we'll want to get the
nice yellow color of the cornbread is yellow cornmeal for today. We're going to add three
quarters of a cup of cornmeal to our mix. Next, we're going to add a little bit of sugar.
It's not a whole lot of sugar, and it's not going to make the corn bread very sweet. But
you just want a little bit, otherwise it's going to be a little bit too savory. We're
going to add one third of a cup of sugar. And our last ingredient which is important
for making sure that the cornbread isn't too solid is we're going to add one and a half
teaspoons of baking powder. Now this will have the cornbread rise. So cornbread doesn't
ever get light and fluffy, but you don't want it to be completely solid either. So that's
one teaspoon, and a half teaspoon. Now when using baking powder you want to make sure
that it's fresh in order to get the best rise. And then we're going to mix this all up so
everything is combined and there aren't any obvious lumps of ingredients in the dry mixture.
