Henry Kaiser once said: "When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt."
There have been few interruptions lately as new structures rise up at the Knight Management
Center, and the existing buildings start getting their "skin" placed on them.
What's often overlooked is, well, the stuff you can't look over when a building is completed.
On this day, in a recessed area of the campus, a lone worker was busy sandblasting.
Even though a building will be hiding his handiwork, he slowly, methodically made his
way. He's working on what will be the Lecture Hall and Commons buildings.
While the dust was flying on the foundations of a new building, the Gunn Building, at the
corner of Arguello Way and Serra Street, has had its "skin" added.
On the outside it's starting to look near completion but much work needs to be done:
it's still lacking a roof and much of the interior infrastructure is being worked on:
the heating, plumbing, telecommunications, and electrical work.
One of the things to take note of on the exterior are the sun shades. While it's a little cloudy
this time of year, in the summer the shades will allow a great deal of sunlight to be
reflected into the building, saving money on lighting.
After many months, the underground parking garage is near completion and the beginning
of the Faculty Office Buildings, which will sit on top of the parking structure, are taking
shape.
It's been a relatively dry winter so far, and crews have been able to work outside.
