This is our first Raku firing after we altered the chimney.
So let's see what happens. This time I'll do with the lit close.
The flames is burning very nicely. Let's have a look in the peep hole~
Ah! The flames looks really good~
I turn up the flame after 15 minutes. You can see the flames still looks really
good,
burning away. Let's have a look at the peep hole.
It's definitely very much hotter inside now
and the flame looks very nice. While we wait for the kiln to heat up even
more,
we're going to prepare the reduction bin. I've got some dry leaves inside and
mainly sawdust that I got from the sawmill.
The kiln was heating up so well that I only turn it up once.
It's only about one and a half hours into the firing right now
and the pieces inside looked shiny and glossy so it's time to take it out.
Make sure you turn down the gas before you open the lid
and wear protective gear when you do this. Once you remove the piece,
put it directly into the reduction bin and top up with some saw dust.
Then let it burn a little bit before you close the lid.
Let it in the bin for about 20 minutes before you open it and removed the
pieces.
Use thongs as the pieces are still very hot and placed them
into the water. Once the piece is cooled enough to be handled by hand,
you can pick it up and scrub it. Looks like we've got some very nice colors
here
so the next step will be testing Raku ?.
