What is Awareness?
What is being in the present moment?
During the night our physical body sleeps and during the day we are awake.
However psychologically we can find ourselves in all these thoughts , emotions, feelings,
in the daydream of our own mind all throughout out day.
Not truly aware of the world around us
and how we feel inside.
To be aware is to be awake in the present moment,
experiencing the information from our five senses.
If we look at who we are,
or what we comprise of psychologically,
we see that we have the consciousness, which is the permanent and real us,
the part that is active with awareness.
And we have all these different inner states, such as fears, anger, greed etc.
These states have a large influence on how we act
and prevent us from seeing the world clearly.
These are known as ego’s.
When we are in awareness we can perceive reality clearly.
However we normally spend our days being caught up in these ego states.
The consciousness is then not active and we live in our own world of thoughts and emotions.
And in this way we live our days,
years
and lives
in the daydream of the mind.
This is what is often referred to as “being psychologically asleep.”
Why would we want to be aware?
That’s when you’re really alive, you experience the world around you in the present moment,
you perceive reality for what it is.
And It is with the consciousness that we are able to feel real inner peace and happiness,
which is not like the negative states we normally feel nor like pleasurable feelings.
We are able to experience true love and compassion for others.
And our true intelligence and understanding towards things is active.
This is because the Real peace, love and wisdom come from our consciousness.
And when we are aware and the consciousness is active
we can see how we really are inside and can get free from the egos states.
Now, how is is it that we can be in awareness?
We can try it right now. J
ust be here in the present moment,
look around you, where are you?,
what can you hear?
what can you feel?
Just relax and try to perceive the world through your five senses
Feel what this is like.
These are not questions you answer with the mind.
But you just do it.
Try to remain in this, in the now.
When you try to stay in this state, aware of the world around you,
you’ll soon realise that thoughts and emotions come up,
one after the other, and take you away.
Then you are no longer aware but caught up in a daydream or emotion.
When this happens, no matter what the thought or emotion might be,
just bring yourself back to the present moment and to perceiving the world around you.
Keep doing this.
The more you do this, the stronger it will become,
and the less strength lower states like anger, anxiety or depression will have over you.
Being in awareness needs to be experienced to know what it is.
And we learn about how it works by doing it.
If you seriously practice this awareness,
you will experience the lifechanging effects.
We can be in awareness everywhere,
at work,
with our friends,
in our home.
But a really nice place to practice it,
is in nature.
So I would recommend going for a walk, in a local park for example,
and just focus on being aware.
Make it your goal to really experience what this is like.
And you’ll notice that all these thoughts and emotions
will relentlessly come up,
certain worries, thoughts about day to day things,
maybe some subtle emotions of fear
But every time just go back to the moment, focus just on being aware.

to find out how it really works.
