I’ve always said farmers are one’s that don’t have to go to a casino to gamble,
because they can do everything right and mother nature can throw a curveball. You can do everything
right and it doesn’t materialize the way you’d like for it to.
We buy the grain when the farmer wants to sell it. If the farmer comes in the worst
thing that can happen is that you don’t pay him and he goes out and tells his neighbor
and his neighbor tells his other neighbor, and all of the sudden you’ve got what you
call very bad PR.
The wonderful thing about the flour business at Stafford County Flour Mill is that we make,
what I consider, the premium product in the industry and do not have to back down for
anybody on quality. And we take great pride in that and the ancestors before us took great
pride in it.
In the last 20 years we have doubled our mill capacity, tripled our storage capacity, put
in all automatic packers, and all that was to improve our position in the marketplace.
We did all these things calculating the risk and weighing the pluses to the minuses and
praise the lord, they all worked.
My approach to business has always been to treat people as I would like to be treated.
And it was always instilled into me that our word was our bond. So if we said we’d do
something, then we were going to do it.
I’m Reuel Foote and I’m the General Manager and President of Stafford County Flour Mill.
