>> [Background Music] No matter what you want to do, no matter who you are, no matter you aspire
to be, Dartmouth has a way of making it all work, and making it work for everyone,
not just a particular type of student.
>> So I started working for humanitarian engineering my sophomore year.
And I actually wound up doing an independent study with the professor in power electronics.
She actually worked with me one-on-one, got me up to speed really fast,
and I was able to start playing around basically
with a small hydropower plant that we built in our back yard.
>> This professor that I took this History of Africa and the World Class with,
he proposed me doing an independent research project with him over my summer.
>> All the professors are very encouraging for students to, you know, not only just, you know,
complete a class and get a grade, but they want you to continue
and sustain your intellectual interest on -- in a topic.
>> So I actually was able to do a research project with him on Nigerians
and the Nigerian community in Tokyo, which was really cool, because I got to interact
like with my own -- like my home environment, but we got to look
at it in like a really different way.
>> Dartmouth really, really tries to make sure that you understand different cultures.
>> You had to do an independent research project for about half of the time you're abroad.
>> My freshman summer I went to Oman, then I think I was home for three weeks and went
to Morocco with Dartmouth's Arabic program.
>> What really surprised me about it was how engaging,
and how sort of stimulating the experience was.
>> It immerses you in the culture so far that you don't have a choice
but to understand and embrace the language.
>> The diverse array of traveling experiences that I've gotten is really incredible,
and one of the best parts of my Dartmouth experience.
>> My work in developing nations has really been key to my experience here.
One of the awesome things about it is there's a ton of support for that kind of work.
There's a lot of that kind of work going on on campus.
>> They really push you and challenge you to think really critically
about why you're doing it, and what the actual impact is of your work.
>> That kind of on the ground experience really strengthens and complements your education,
and gets you passionate and excited about learning in the classroom.
>> Do more.
