another sign going in the direction of progressive verses regressive is that
twenty-eight states now have decriminalizing marijuana national memo
is reporting on this rhode island just became the fourteen th st the
decriminalizing marijuana to some degree just days ago
and in these states unlike washington in colorado which have actually legalize
the drug but by voter referendum people who were caught with marijuana
can be punished under state law but only by some kind of means other than prison
time so usually it's like a ticket of violation maybe you have to appear in
court similar to like a speeding ticket type situation right we've talked many
times about why this make sense we have overcrowded prisons in part with
nonviolent drug offenders doesn't make sense to have an air force the prison
industrial complex really like that
we've talked about
cigarettes have been proven to be
far more damaging to people's health but those are arbitrarily
legal unregulated and taxed but marijuana is not legal we've talked
about pharmaceutical opposition if if medical marijuana and marijuana t h c is
going to have
profitable medicinal value
the big pharmaceutical companies have an interest in only having synthetic ta
extn ta cee derived things
in the in the pharmaceutical
industrial complex and not having a legal marijuana does and number of
reasons why we are seeing the pushback
but we are headed in the right direction i think we're gonna get to where we want
to be it's just going to take
uh... probably be ten more years there are a number of issues with the fact
that states are doing this
which is that their is a conflict with federal law which prohibits any use of
marijuana under schedule one of the controlled substances act two there's a
push to remove to reschedule
marijuana something other than a schedule on drug this is making a huge
debt though in the fact that we have so many of these prison cells which may be
now fewer will be occupied by these individuals in the time it's a good
thing but there are powerful forces that are opposed to this
absolutely i think you're gonna see uh... there already is a grassroots
movement
in place to try to legalize it for recreational use them now that finally
we have to states that is actually done it
i think you can see is sort of snowball fact in the next five to ten years were
a lot more states do
