Hi! I’m David Kaynor for expertvillage.com. I’m going to discuss options for holding
the violin. Probably the most standard way of holding the violin is hold it in the kind
of position the classical player would use, with the shoulder rest or the violin itself
resting on the shoulder and the chin and the shoulder combining to hold the violin in a
relatively stabled position. Then the left hand is used mainly to press down strings,
and only secondarily to add some added support instability to the instrument. And I’m going
to play a tune in this position…
