"Hi I'm Dave Ardsma, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Waste Management. Today I have
a different role though. I'm your tour guide for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Welcome
to the Greenest Show on Grass. Like every PGA Tour event, the pros are shooting for
low numbers, but we're shooting for a really low number -- zero. Our zero-waste challenge
is back this year with a goal to send 100 percent of tournament waste to recycling or
composting facilities. It's something that's never been done before, especially at an event
this big, with over half a million people attending. As the experts on sustainability,
Waste Management has set the highest standards for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. To
get to zero waste, it takes planning, hard work, and help from everyone. That's every
player, vendor, and fan, working together to make it happen. While the pros got fourteen
clubs in their bag, we've got 5,795 of these recycling and compost bins in order to make
zero waste a reality. We also have something else working for us at the tournament -- the
sun. This is our solar-powered hospitality tent on "Eighteen." Another example of how
we think green. Plus, sixty solar-powered trash compactors. They're really efficient
and hold up to five times of a traditional bin. The entire tournament, in fact, is powered
by 100 percent of renewable energy. Now let's talk golf holes, starting with two on the
water -- fifteen and eighteen. We're using them to demonstrate our environmental commitment.
On fifteen, check this out...our logo in the floating display uses golf tees made of recycled
plastic; 750,000 of them. Here at the eighteenth hole, our water feature is made up of over
140,000 used golf balls that will be re-purposed in a really cool way. After the tournament,
the golf balls will be donated to youth golf charities throughout Arizona. The Waste Management
Phoenix Open is a great place to think green and to wear green. On Saturday, we encourage
fans, players, and caddies all to wear green to the tournament. And for everyone who does,
we'll donate a dollar to green charities. The Waste Management Phoenix Open contributed
over 5.5 million dollars to charities in 2012 and the tournament has contributed 79.9 million
dollars to charities here in Arizona since its inception. That's the best green story
of all. Thank you for joining me here on this tour of The Waste Management Phoenix Open.
We hope to see you out here each and every year enjoying some great golf and experiencing
the greatest and greenest show on grass."
