Hi, my name is Michelle O’Dierno. I’m the woman’s health nurse practitioner at UB student health services.
The recommended guidelines are for woman under age 25 to have STI screening. If a woman is over 25, she can decline testing. If cultures are done for STI screening,
a different swab is inserted into the ***, and gently swabs the ***. STI’s are infections that are transmitted through *** contact with an infected person.
Ghoneria, Chlamydia, and *** are infections that often have no immediate or obvious symptoms. You can’t tell if someone is infected by looking at them.
*** use during any genital to genital contact, not just penetration with the *** or other *** object is very important in protecting against infection. Condoms and dental damps can be obtained free at your GYN visit.
We also offer female condoms for women who want protection, but their partners refuse to use condoms. After the samples are obtained, a bimanual exam will be done.
