Hello. I am Valeriy Dementiev, the musician
and I want to present you a lesson of improvisation in this style.
Everyone, who knows about music meters and keys, can learn to improvise
First, let's choose the easiest major key - C, Am.
Then choose the random meter and try to lead the melody with right hand.
Set the metronome on 120 beats, for example
and lead the melody: one note for two metronome beats. You can also play one note twice
Lead the random melody.
The next exercise: one note for one metronome beat.
Playing the note twice is possible.
In the next exercise play two notes for a beat.
Then combine these three exercises together
Add the syncopes into your music line.
There are five quart chords in each key
In the key of C, Am there are these:
the first chord - D, G, C
the second - E, A, D
the third - G, C, F
the forth - A, D, G
the fifth - B, E, A
And now let's turn on the metronome and learn to play.
Then play it with the previous right hand's melody.
Three previous exersises for right hand should be learned with left hand.
The next exercise is for leading the bass line
The bass line from C is based on quints
C, G, D
from D: D, A, E
from E: E, B, F
from F: F, C, G
from G: G, D, A
from A: A, E, B
from B: B, F, C
from C: C, G, D
I do not recommend you to use E and B bass lines, because there is a three-tone in their structure, so it can cause a bad sound.
In addition, I recommend to lead the bass line in two octaves adding a third. So, it will sound like this.
I want to draw you attention at the pedal, that I use to avoid cutting the sound
Any note can also be played twice.
Do this exercise for two octaves, and so on.
The next exercise is for playing an arpeggio with right hand
Arpeggio is based on these notes:
from C: C, F, G, C
from D: D, G, A, D
from E: E, A, B, E
from F: F, B, C, F
from G: G, C, D, G
from A: A, D, E, A
from B: B, E, F, B
from C; C, F, G, C.
I don't reccomend to use B and F arpeggio for the same reason, but it is possible if you want.
Play arpeggio from C on the whole keyboard
Then from D
from E
from F
from G
from A
from B
from C.
Pay attention on the pedal that I use to avoid sound cutting.
Now you can mix the arpeggios from different notes and double the notes.
Then let's try to combine the bass line and right hand arpeggio. It can sound like this.
The next exercise is for learning to lead the melody voice with octave using right hand and for one melody voice using left hand. It sounds like this.
You can also use the previous methods, so it'll sound like this.
You can improvise in different keys or by playing an ensemble.
Good luck in your art work.
