Welcome to UOIT's Teaching and Learning Centre's
teachorial on Creating an Account in Turnitin.
This is one screencast in a series of teachtorials
designed to help you get started with Turnitin
by creating a new account.
So how do you get started?
Well, you need to set up a new account at Turnitin.com.
So navigate your browser to turnitin.com.
This is its homepage and from the homepage,
you can sign in with your email address and password
once you have created an account.
You can retrieve a password if you have forgotten it.
Or you can create an account.
For the purposes of this demonstration,
we are going to create a new account.
This takes us to the next window
that asks if you have ever used Turnitin
so if you have created an account before,
you can sign in from here as well.
But since we are creating a new account,
we are going to select either student, instructor or teaching assistant.
For the purposes of this demonstration, we'll select instructor.
The next window that you see is the
create a new instructor account.
At this point, you need the account ID and the join password
that is provided by the Teaching and Learning Centre.
So give us a call anytime and
we'd be more than happy to get you set up.
After you enter the join password,
the next thing you do is add your first name, your last name,
your email address, your password, confirm your password,
scroll down, select a secret question -
I'll select "What is your favourite music group" -
and today it will be Chicago.
I'll confirm that I am at least 13 years of age
and click the "I agree - Create profile".
Once that button has been clicked,
you will be presented with the compatibility check.
This is Turnitin just checking to see if your computer
has all the requirements to run Turnitin.
It checks your operating system, your web browser,
whether cookies are enabled or not and java script.
If you do get one of the exclamation marks,
you can read up on it by clicking on the link.
So I'm just going to click "Continue to the Dashboard"
and now I have my new account set up.
Once the new account is set up,
you can always go in and have a look at your profile.
I'm going to go back now to turnitin.com
and I'm going to log in with my new account, my password,
click the "Sign In" and you are taken to the Instructor Homepage.
I have used this account before so you can see
that I have some classes set up and
we'll get into those in different teachtorials.
At any point when you are in Turnitin,
you can always go in and have a look at your profile -
the user info tag.
Once you click on that, you can go in
and change any of the profile pieces of information
or some of your account settings.
And that's the end of this teachtorial on creating an account.
