Welcome to this tutorial about the 8960.
This video will introduce you to the Nickel Metal-Hydride battery charge function package.
To get access to these functions, make sure that your 8960-20 is equipped
with the function package 8968-50 which gives access to these functions through LVDAC-EMS.
To access to one of these functions, proceed by selecting Power Supply mode on the front panel of the 8960,
connect the 8960 to your computer using a USB Cable and then start LVDAC-EMS.
Once it is fully opened, click on this icon to open the four quadrant dynamometer/ Power supply windows
windows and select one of the five NiMH Battery Charger in the function selection list
Please note that each of the five NiMH Battery Charger uses a specific charging technique
allowing you to study multiple charging processes for Nickel Metal Hydride batteries.
A small description of the characteristic of each battery charger is available in parenthesis.
Let's take a look at the settings of the first battery charger.
Charge Current: Set the constant-current charge value
Cutoff Voltage: Set the cutoff voltage at which the function will automatically stop to prevent any damage to the NiMH battery pack.
Temperature Cutoff (TCO): Set the maximum temperature at which the function will stop to protect the batteries.
Thermistor Type: This setting is blocked to Type 1 because this Thermistor type corresponds to the one in the NiMH battery pack.
Status: Indicates if the function is started or not.
Here are the meters showing the parameters of the power supply in real time, the single refresh
and automatic refresh button and finally the Start/stop button to control the function.
You can also find here a graph explaining the function.
As the title specified, this NiMH Battery Charger uses a constant-current charge with voltage and temperature cutoff values.
Just enter your values here then hit the start/stop button to engage the charging process.
Feel free to test each of the five battery charger to compare and understand each charging technique when it comes to NiMH Batteries.
You will find that the other functions are as easy to work with as this one.
That's it for the Nickel Metal-Hydride battery charge function package.
