>>ANCHOR: College students from around our area joined the Occupy Rochester protest today
to defend the right of education.
>>PROTESTERS: Money for schools and education, not for wars and corporations.
>>ANCHOR: Students from a host of schools came out. Represented were the University
of Rochester, RIT, Nazareth College, MCC and SUNY Geneseo. The group marched from the encampment
at Washington Square Park to the Liberty Pole with a message – we need to change the education
system. Students say increased student loan debt is contributing to the high unemployment
rate, which is why they chose to show solidarity with the Occupy movement.
>>STUDENT: We ought to empower and emancipate ourselves in education, not continue the system
the way it is. Something has to change. This system is not sustainable.
>>ANCHOR: Students picked today to rally because it’s International Human Rights Day, and
they say education needs to be a right and not a privilege.
