As many of you know, I'm half Filipino. My mom comes from Misamis Occidental.
And here she is! If you'd like to watch this video and meet her, click here, or the description box.
When my mom told me that one of the deadliest typhoons hit Leyte, Tacloban and the surrounding areas, I felt awful.
To know that something this beautiful could end up like this.
Thousands of people have lost loved ones. Have lost their homes, have lost everything. They are only left with prayers. And they need our help.
Although the typhoon is gone, the people of Leyte, of Tacloban, will be dealing with the aftermath for years to come.
They need our help.
I happen to have a platform. I happen to have a voice. And I happen to have almost 300,000 awesome, kind-hearted subscribers.
And together we can make a difference.
So I decided to hold a 24 hour fundraiser in the hopes of raising $10,000.
Fairly ambitious. But I've learned to go big or go home.
So on November 14th, I stayed up. No thanks to that trick Jackie!
But I had the company and support of you lovely viewers!
With your comments, with your questions, and with some of your Skype conversations.
This girl right here is awesome--she donated 2 days of her entire paycheck!
And anyone who donated anything, even $5, I am so grateful. You have no idea.
But you can imagine; staying up for 24 hours can lead to some craziness.
First it starts with makeup. Then it escalates to wigs.
Then it escalates to victory dances. Moonwalking to Michael Jackson.
So I did a victory dance for every $1000 after I hit $5000. And you all were entertained!
Including Jackie! She was doing a victory dance!
I also put on a little fashion show. Trying to sell my merchandise because all the profits that I received would also be included in the fundraiser.
So yeah. This is victory dance number 8. Moonwalk, trick! Dance for that money!
Getting down! Oh, and then YouTube cut us off!
The cut the music because I was going too crazy.
But having said that, we surpassed our goal of $10,000. And I just want to take you behind the scenes so you guys know exactly what happened with your money.
Okay, we are in.
Thanks to you lovelies, we raised $10,887.
But to give you the back end, I clicked on that button. And you will see here... let me zoom in.
Exactly how much I received.
So the first deposit was for $2,500. Second deposit, $1,306.39. Third deposit, $422.80. And the final deposit for $5,593.26.
I am still waiting on this, which is taking forever but regardless, it doesn't matter.
When you add those up, that does not equal $10,887. That, my friends, is called fees.
Now I can show you. You can look for yourself. But if you go here, you'll notice that I chose to donate as a project.
The reason for this decision was because when I looked at the charities to donate to, even though Red Cross was listed, Philippines Red Cross was not listed.
So you can see here all of these different states, but nothing that says Philippines Red Cross. And I wanted to make sure it actually gets to that specific project.
Hence why I chose this route. Now the difference between a project and the actual donation when I worked out the fees, it was a difference of $30 in total.
This is a business and they need to pay their bills, like the rest of us.
But here they charge 5%, then they have 2.9% processing, plus .30 cents per transaction which they did not stipulate here.
But whatever.
7.9% plus .30 cents per transaction. So anyway, the total fees came up to--I have a little breakdown here. Take a closer look.
We raised $10,887. If you add all those numbers up that I read off earlier, it only adds up to $9,848.89.
There was $1,038 in fees, okay?
And here's the fee breakdown. I just did it to make sure it checked out. There is a variance.
I guess we got a discount of $1.47.
On my merchandise sales, thanks to you guys, this is what I'm left with.
$1,171. So I donated all of that, giving you a grand total of $11,020.74
Now I'll show you the email. But here in the email, it says, ''your percentage of sales from merch totaled $1,171.85. I've attached a breakdown of the cost,''
which I will not show because that is confidential. You know exactly where your money went.
I thought Go Fund was the best fundraising resource out of all the ones that I checked, the fastest turnaround, and ultimately we did raise our goal.
Now for the donation, let us donate this money, right?!
Make sure I didn't buy a pair of Manolos with that money.
Oh, yeah you see it, yeah.
Now let's try this. For the third time--third time's a charm, they say.
Hurry up!
Oh. Oh! Paid! Yes!
Okay, can you zoom in for that one?!
Transaction successful! Your transaction reference number is--
Your transaction was made on such and such date at such and such time. The total amount--with the amount of US $11,020. There you go.
Please check your email for the billing information.
There.
Thank you guys! Look what you did! Look at what you done did!
Love!
You guys raised $11,000 in 24 hours! Thank you so much!
I pray that this money really helps out. They need so much help and I pray that in a few years time, I can actually go down there and do what I can.
