please join me in welcoming chacellor designate Kent Syverud. chairman of the board Richard Thompson
Was officially the first but among the many to welcome the twelfth chancellor at
Syracuse University to the podium at Hendricks chapel
first things first I want to separately acknowledge
and thank our Chancellor Nancy Cantor. Nancy you have been an extraordinary leader in higher
education at Syracuse University and all over the world
I don't think there's a University leader anywhere in the world who has done
more to organically connected University to its
communities than Nancy Cantor has done
I know that lots and lots of people in this community know. it's an honor you
for and I really thank you for your leadership.
Syverud talk about the warm welcome he's received here, and how he
has been blessed by transforming teachers and mentors
and how he heard one common theme from people he's met so far on the SU campus
I heard it from Syracuse board members I heard it from students I heard it from faculty
I heard it from alumni and I heard it from staff
Syracuse took a chance on me and I have made the most of it
that statement is wonderful combination up humility and ambition I
that statement represents this university in this country
at its very best. The Chancellor designate also endeared himself
to upstate New Yorkers addressing the fact that
he grew up in the region near Rochester
any then told the crowd he has two words for them.
I have two words in short for everyone here in Hendricks
and around the world who bleeds orange two words I am IN!!
Syverud currently serves as dean at the School of Law at
Washington University in Saint Louis he is set to assume his new role as
Syracuse University's 12 Chancellor on January 30
