This tutorial will show you how to check out and read digital magazines from your public library.
There is no limit on the number of digital magazines you can check out at one time, and they never need to be returned.
They are yours until you choose to remove them from your device.
Here are a few ingredients you will need to successfully complete the process.
To begin the process, follow the Zinio link on your library's website to get to Western Maryland Regional Library's digital magazine collection site.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the type of computer or mobile device that you are using.
Click or tap on its name to be taken to the appropriate site where you can download the Zinio Reader 4 software.
We recommend that you use this software to read digital magazines you check out from the library.
If you are on a computer, you will need to download and run the software installer.
If you are on a mobile device, you will need to download and install the Zinio mobile app.
After you have installed Zinio Reader 4...
click the "Return to Library Collection" tab at the top of your screen to return to the magazine collection page.
Click "Create New Account" in the top, right corner to create the first of two accounts you will need to check out digital magazines from the library.
Enter your first and last names in the first two fields and your e-mail address in the third field.
In the fourth field, enter a password that you will be able to remember.
Be sure to choose a password that is more than 5 characters long.
Next, re-enter the password in the fifth field, and click "Create Account."
You can search for a specific magazine title...
or browse through the list of available magazines alphabetically by clicking or tapping on the "Next" link.
Alternatively, select to see only those magazines of a particular type from the Genre drop-down list near the top of the page.
When you find a magazine you would like to read, check it out by clicking or tapping on its cover image or title,
and then click or tap "Complete Checkout" to confirm your choice.
A new tab for the Zinio digital magazine site will open on your Internet browser.
On this site, you will need to create the second of your two computer accounts.
Enter your first and last names in the appropriate fields.
Next, enter the e-mail address and password you used for your library collection account.
Then, re-enter the password in the last field.
If you do not want to receive e-mail advertisements from Zinio...
click or tap to remove the check mark in the permission box.
Finally, click or tap "Register."
You will be taken to your confirmation page.
This page will show all of the magazines you check out from your library or buy from Zinio.
To check out more magazines, click on the "Return to Library Collection" tab at the top of your Internet browser screen.
If you are finished checking out magazines...
log out of the Zinio site by hovering over your name and selecting "Log Out" from the drop-down list that appears.
To read the magazines you have checked out, open the Zinio Reader 4 software or app you installed earlier.
For the computer software, you will be prompted to sign in to your Zinio account.
Your username is your e-mail address.
For the mobile app, you will first need to tap "Zinio," and then log in using your Zinio account.
Depending on the device you are using, Zinio Reader 4 might look different on your screen,
but it will work in basically the same way.
Click on a magazine with an arrow to download it.
This will allow you to read the magazine even when you do not have an active Internet connection.
On the mobile app, you might first need to tap the "Read" or "My Library" icon to see your magazine selections.
To remove unwanted magazines from your Reader...
click the X beside the title on the computer version.
On the mobile app version, you must first tap "Edit" at the top of the screen.
Next, tap the X on the cover image, and then tap, "Remove issue from device."
Tap "Done" at the top of the screen when you are finished removing magazines.
Click or tap on a downloaded magazine cover to open and read it.
Now you are ready to enjoy your digital magazines anywhere at any time.
This concludes the tutorial.
