Hi, I'm Stephen Monet, Manager of Environmental
Planning Initiatives
with the City of Greater Sudbury, and
this is EarthCare Minute.
Did you know that the average Canadian uses twice as much water as the average
European?
There's much we can do to reduce the amount of water we use.
Keep a jug of the water in the fridge to avoid running the tap for a glass of
cold water.
In summer most of the water we use is for lawn care.
A lush green lawn requires a lot of water. Try replacing some lawn
with drought-tolerant plants that can live on much less water.
Find out from your local garden centre which drought-tolerant shrubs and flowers are
suitable for Greater Sudbury. Consider collecting rainwater and using watering cans
to water your flowers, gardens and trees.
Watering your lawn at dawn or dusk times, when the sun is less intense,
reduces evaporation and maximizes the amount of water your grass can absorb.
These are all great ways to make sure that you use water as efficiently as
possible. EarthCare Minute.
One minute is all it takes. Brought to you by the City of Greater Sudbury.
