It's the flu season again, and you'd like to do whatever you can to avoid catching the
flu this year. Hi, I'm Dr. Savage, I'm an osteopathic family practice physician from
Tampa. First of all, I must say, consider getting a flu shot, they're are actually certain
populations in which it's particularly important to get a flu shot. Other than that, that helps
the immune system, other things to do to help your own immune system, would be to live a
healthy lifestyle, get regular exercise, have a balanced diet, and get plenty of sleep.
Most importantly avoid exposure, avoid exposure to the influenza virus which causes the flu.
If you're sitting next to somebody in a restaurant, and they sneeze on you, or you share a glass
with somebody who isn't yet showing the signs of the illness, you might be out of luck in
that situation. However, if grandma was sick, it would be responsible of her, or anybody
else who's not feeling well, to cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze, cleanup after
themselves, maintain a clean working living environment. That would would be the best
way to avoid catching the flu this year. I'm Dr. Savage, and I wish you the best of health.
