Hi this is Steve from Roofer911.com, today I met with a homeowner that had a condensation
buildup problem inside her attic and was also complaining about water that was dripping
into the bathroom fan and it happens all the time even when it was sunny out, so I thought
maybe she may have a crack water pipe but sure enough there was none. When I went inside
the attic you can see this pipe and it was connected to the top of the fan which was
connected to the bathroom and the heat and moisture was going up to the ridge vent.
Now, when you look at this picture, this is the ridge vent and you can see you all the
water droplets to the underside and the ridge vent is at the very top of the gable. Now,
I wanted to do an infrared scan to see what else is going on inside this home and I noticed
there was a lot of blue and blue is cold air or it's moisture but this was cold air. Now
this is not a normal picture I should be seeing, I should see no cold air whatsoever in this
area here because the insulation should be butt up against the wall plate and that's
not the case. Also, there were no baffles installed here, so if there were baffles installed
and there was insulation butt up against the wall plate I would see no cold air at all
down here, the only place I would see it would be along the leading edge of the insulation
baffles.
Now in this picture here, where you see the yellow and the orange, that's all heat that's
coming up through the sides of the pipe in picture number one and the reason why is because
the insulation was done very poorly there so it needs to be built up, in fact the more
I look at the attic over I noticed many areas where the insulation was missing so it needs
to be built up as well. Once I was done with everything the homeowner showed me an area
where she had a roof leak and this picture here is the same picture here that leak was
just behind the gutter may be one foot up and the water was inside the exterior wall
but that had nothing to do with the roof, it was not a leak, it was a condensation build-up
there as well, in fact where you see the blue here was going right across the entire perimeter
of the house. So, by them closing off the intake vents with insulation really cost a
lot of problems. My name is Steve from Roofer 911.com and we can been reached at 703-475-2446,
