First let's put the violin up into position as we did before
so we just lift it up, onto our left shoulder
making sure the shoulder rest is nice and comfortable and in the correct
position
and then we just rest our chin down onto it, and you notice that the violin is at
this lovely 45 degree angle;
it's not stuck around here which is very tempting when you're reading music
right in front of you; and it's not stretched out around the back either.
It's just sitting comfortably at this angle, and my left shoulder is just
supporting it.
It's level with my right shoulder - it's not sticking up in the air like that
it's nice and relaxed
It's holding violin on the body nice and strongly.
And now we're going to work on our right arm with the chicken wing.
So we've got a good bow arm down here - nice and relaxed,
thumb bent - and we just going to go 'Chicken Wing' out like that. And now we're going to
place
the bow on the A string roughly in the middle of the bow
And we're going to do this roughly halfway
between the end of the fingerboard and the bridge. But slightly further towards the
bridge
than the fingerboard, so just over halfway. Just place it like that.
The hair of the bow should be nice and flat, and you should be holding this lovely
comfortable
bow hold. Now if I just turn sideways, you will be able to see that this box is still
correct between my violin and my bow arm.
And now the position of my bow arm - my right shoulder is lovely and relaxed. I'm
not
sticking it up in the air like that. I'm not pushing it down. It's just at it's natural
level.
And my elbow is nice and relaxed too. It's slightly lower than my wrist.
And my wrist is at the same level as my knuckles.
So we're just sitting like that perfectly comfortably.
And that's the perfect violin hold. (Thanks for watching!)
