Hey guys, Jason from Waynesville Automotive again. I just wanted to show you this really
cool feature here. The Selec-Terrain that's featured on this 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk.
Pretty cool thing about it: according to Chrysler when the driver chooses a terrain type, Selec-Terrain
determines the correct calibrations for up to 12 different powertrain, braking and suspension
systems including optimizing the vehicle stability system, adjusting the suspension height and
differential lock settings and even altering the engine's throttle response. It's got 5
modes here. It starts in "Auto" which is the basic mode that's good for everyday driving.
Just the standard mode there. Standard electronic brake controls. Automatically detects the
need for four-wheel drive engagement and the front/rear torque split is fully active and
variable depending on driving conditions. The next thing we have if we rotate it here,
it goes down in to "Snow" mode. This thing here is tuned in to minimize oversteer and
maximize traction. So it'll have second-gear launch, it's for use in inclement weather,
slick surface electronic brake controls. It has full-time four-wheel drive. And it allows
for a target front/rear torque split of up to 60/40 percent - 60 front, 40 rear. Then
we can put it in the "Sport" mode here as you'll see it takes a second then it'll adjust
and you can kinda feel the car do this at the same time, it's kinda cool. So the "Sport"
is used for more aggressive driving maneuvers, traction control is limited. ESC slip thresholds
are raised. Driveline torque bias for improved cornering and allows target front/rear torque
split of up to 40/60 percent which is the opposite of the "Snow". Then we can move it
down to the "Sand/Mud" setting. And this one here maximizes traction and provides additional
wheel slip. This is for enhanced driver control in off-road conditions. It's got off-road
electronic brake controls, full-time four-wheel drive, and allows for a front/rear torque
split of up to 100 percent rear. The last one we have is the "Rock" setting. We have
to actually put it in four-wheel drive low to make that happen. And we have to move it
into neutral for it to finish. Now it's shifting. "Sand/Mud", we're in "Rock" mode. So now that
we're in "Rock" put it back in drive. This "Rock" thing is only available on the Trailhawk.
It activates the Hill Descent Control and Selec-Speed. So this is for use on obstacles,
off-road electronic brake controls with increased brake lock differential capacity. And it's
only available in that four-wheel drive low like we just did. The whole point of this
Selec-Terrain is to achieve the best possible driving experience on all terrains.
