In part two we will explore the specific Goals of Operations Managers by examining how an
operation is designed. Weill define the differences between goods
and services and determine the impact that quality has on the delivered products.
Weill also look into the strategies employed by Operations Managers to create value as
they manage the operation. Finally we will study the impact of human
resources and how individual tasks are defined and measured.
Be sure to examine the learning objectives for this part and take the Pretest before
you begin you study. I have not included the two supplemental chapters
but if you have time I encourage you to review them as well.
Be sure to actively participate in the discussion topics. Your thoughts and experiences are
a very important addition to our learning resources.
You will also be doing a joint project that will allow you to collaborate with two of
your fellow students as well as review the work of a third student.
This will be an opportunity to not only organize and present your own thoughts but to seek
out and incorporate the opinions of others. Be sure to examine the schedule for this project
and complete the work on time. When you have completed all the activities
for this part you should be well prepared to take the second exam.
If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to contact me.
I hope that you are enjoying the class and studying Operations management.
