You've filed bankruptcy and now your condominium board of
directors are calling you about condominium fees, you though
they were discharged. Hi. My name is Dean D'Mellow. I'm a
bankruptcy attorney with the Engel Law Group in Seattle,
Washington. Homeowner fees and condominium fees are a constant
source of issues in bankruptcy laws. The reason is when you
file a bankruptcy, the ongoing condominium dues are still your
responsibility until the ownership of the property is
transferred. What this means is that even though you're not
living at that condominium, you're still responsible for the
condominium's fees until the foreclosure sale for that home
that you thought you discharged in bankruptcy. Now, what I mean
by foreclosure sale is the date when your house or condominium
is sold at auction. On that date, you are no longer the
legal owner of that property. However, up until that date you
are still responsible for the condominium fees. Why am I
telling you this? Because if you're being called by your
condominium board of directors, you need legal help. I deal with
this sort of problem every day. My name is Dean D'Mellow. I'm a
bankruptcy attorney with the Engel Law Group in Seattle. I
want you to pick up that phone and call us at 206-625-9800 so
we can answer your questions and resolve this problem. Thank you
