INTRO (A)
The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how to view journal entries from a student perspective.
First access a journal - Tools | journals | click journal name
About this Journal (B)
This summarizes the author of the journal, shows the number of entries and number of comments
Journal GRADE (C)
If grading is enabled for the journal, this section will be visible
Please note that if the column is hidden from students, this will prevent the journal grade from showing
Students can only see their own grading information and can easily hide it by clicking Journal Grade
When the instructor has finished grading their journal participation, a score will show up next to Grade: and the grade date will be visible
The feedback section isn't used by all instructors - if comments are present here, it is confidential comments to each individual user, which also
appear in My Grades ____________________________
INDEX (D)
This section gathers entries either by weekly or monthly activity, which is set up by the instructor when the journal is created
Click the plus sign next to the Week or Month to reveal any entries
Each post will be listed as a clickable link, which you can click to access the journal entry
COMMENTS (E)
Because journals are private, students can only see their own entries, and therefore can only comment on their own entries
Students will likely receive comments from their instructor or TA here
Students can provide comments back to the instructor or TA using this tool
Under each post on the page, there is a Comment button in the lower right corner
Users can click on the Comment button and type their comments regarding the specific entry
There is no formatting toolbar, just a spell check at the bottom
When you've finished your comments, click Add
