What makes a great leader is an incredibly interesting topic and there are over 72’000
leadership books on Amazon but let’s put it this way. Paris Hilton has over 100’000
Twitter followers. We are all of us looking for someone to follow. So to separate yourself
from the crowed obviously isn’t that difficult. So to be a great leader in your workplace;
1. Have a vision of where you want to go. What are you creating for either your business,
your industry or your functional department? Have that vision.
2. Communicate the vision. Tell people. Tell them where they’re going, tell them how
they are going to get there and my goodness they will follow you. Just think; they are
following Paris! 3. Know what your true north is. When you
know what your values are and you say “What I’m about is…” people will naturally
fall into a process of selection. Some will choose to follow you, some will choose not
to and that is great because you don’t need people following you who are not of the same
value set as you. So those are the top three things, I’m not
going to cover 72’000 books, Amazon is doing that but if you are doing those three things,
you are ahead of the pack and at least you are on a par with Paris.
