Today, with social media and a lot of role models, there's a lot more awareness that
kids can do just about anything. We have an African-American president. There's an
African-American that's the administrator of NASA. We've had a multitude of African-American
astronauts, and when I was growing up, we didn't have any of that. Doors were
opened up to me because, I think, I was curious, of course, and you know, when different opportunities
opened up, I would take advantage of that. That's one thing that I would
always encourage people to do: When there's an opportunity, it might be outside of your
comfort zone, but go ahead and go for it. You'll more than likely grow from that
experience.
"Welcome to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex."
For me, working at NASA has just been fabulous. Working here, we work the space program, but
it's opened up so many other doors. I've met so many people. Just this infectious
attitude about human spaceflight, discovery, it inspires the world, and I'm glad to be
a part of it.
