Hi, my name is Pedro Sanchez and I am doctoral student at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Alicante.
In the following video I’ll introduce some blogs and journals that address various issues regarding the area of economics.
First talk of all I’ll talk about the blog called eKonomicus. It provides information, analysis and opinions. A group of young economists
decided to launch this blog in order to obtain a more complete picture of the recent political and economic events combining
theory and practice.
The blog is divided into three sections which publishes various articles.
International Economics echoes received news coverage or lack of rigor and analysis by means of
Catalan and Spanish media. The section is based on the idea that most of the economic events that happen around the world
have an impact to a greater or lesser extent in our society, so it’s necessary, therefore, to analyse them.
‘Connexió Brussel•les’ originated from verifying that there’s too great a distance between Brussels, the centre of European decisions,
and Catalan society. This section therefore aims to try to reduce this distance by analysing the inexorable
European integration process and explain the decisions taken at European level.
eKonoforum is a section that was created with the aim to generate questions and encourage debates, contributing thus to the transition from a
information society to a knowledge society. Also, periodically you can download the magazine, which
collects articles and interviews of this blog.
The blog col•lectiu Wilson, which uses the name of the American President
and Nobel Peace Prize and the Woodrow Wilson consists of academics from the fields of economics and political science who want to
promote an objective and open debate on the process of self-determination in Catalonia.
The commercial effects, the impact on taxation or financial consequences of a hypothetical independence of Catalonia are some
issues that we see in this blog. As you can see, it’s divided into sections that collect articles
of each member. You’ll also find various videos made about some of the statements and interviews on television.
Indeed one of its members, Professor Xavier Sala i Martin, your blog Random Thoughts talks about various topics from a
macroeconomic point of view. It also offers a video blog where various current issues are reviewed, making everything much stronger
with reference to the Catalan economy
The blog ‘cercle català de negocis’ offers a view of periodic development of studies on the economic situation of
Catalonia for the association of entrepreneurs, executives and professionals who want to secure the future of the business in
Catalonia.
Its objectives are:
- Raise awareness among employers and influence the social and political forces due to the need to create business in Catalonia
that actually favours economic and social growth in Catalonia.
-Show that the internationalisation of Catalan companies is the
key to the future success of our business.
- Strengthen the Catalonia brand, its products and values
from Catalonia.
As you can see, the blog includes a store where you can buy books that deal with the issues already mentioned.
Well, we’ll talk about some magazines:
‘L'Anuari de la Societat Catalana d'Economia’ published conferences,
debates and seminars organised by the Society, and the prizes that it’s awarded: ‘Premi Catalunya d'Economia’ and ‘Premi
Societat Catalana d'Economia’, alternating annually.
Each article has a summary in English, in fact, it’s the only
Catalan published magazine that’s reviewed regularly in the indexes of publications of the American Economic Association.
‘Recerques’ is a Catalan history journal founded in 1970, it’s scientific and six-monthly, and it publishes
research works on history, social sciences and humanities relating to any area and time.
It’s a journal from the ‘l'Associació Recerques. Història, Economia, Cultura’. This is an inter-university association and it brings together teachers and
researchers from several universities and teaching and culture schools.
The journal is published on paper by the publisher ‘Publicacions de la Universitat de València ‘ and electronically by the Pompeu Fabra University.
The journal ‘CIDOB d'afers internacionals’ is a cultural/academic journal published quarterly on international relations
development. It’s pioneer in the field of Spanish speakers, for over 30 years offering readers an in-depth analysis of
International issues from different points of view and perspectives, combining information and analysis.
The publication is aimed at the academic community and the public interested or involved in this field: politica, economic and
social actors, associations and NGOs, businesses, etc..
It’s published on paper and digitally. The articles published go through
a process of external evaluation by anonymous pairs and they’re indexed and abstracted in the major academic databases on
social sciences.
Well, here we’ve reviewed the different journals and blogs in Catalan on economic topics.
Thank you for your attention
