Following an overnight occupation at the quad, Chancellor Katehi has ordered for the camp's removal by 3pm.
Resistance was met, and what appeared to be a peaceful protest quickly changed in tone as the police arrived on scene.
The following is footage from the events earlier today.
At about 3:30pm, around 50 riot police arrived at the southwest corner of the quad and moved in towards protestors on the centennial walkway.
Police officials notified protestors that they were unlawfully assembled and were subject to arrest.
:Students, united, we'll never be divided:
:You don't have to do this:
:Shame on you:
Police used zip ties to arrest protestors and escorted them off the premises.
In response to the arrests, protestors called on surrounding fellow students for additional support.
With the number of protestors growing, police officials were then surrounded.
:Power of the students, power of the students:
Dozens sat with linked arms as police began to pepper spray the front line protestors.
Protestors urged police to halt arrests, chanting phrases such as: "let them go", "shame on you", and "don't hurt the students".
"The whole purpose of this was just to ask them to take the tents down..um..and to get the tents down."
:Power of the students, power of the students:
Once the arrests were made, police officials marched off the quad leaving protestors in an emotional state.
"This thing didn't start because of the collection of students gathering in the quad, it started with the introduction of who came into the quad the way they came into the quad.
If this is going to be a dialogue, which I hope it is, then the administration needs to understand that we need to be talked to, as adults, and as people of this university.
Ten arrests were made today, and riot police left the quad an hour after their arrival.
