I'm teaching a course for first year connections
which is called House and Home In Society
which allows me to intersect my interest in architecture
and also sociology.Well we explore
what the relationship is between
the physical idea of shelter
with the social and psychological
definitions that people have. We're about to take a field trip to
the tenement museam on the Lower East Side
for a sense of public housing and social housing
and the city. Many of the students
are freshman and not from this area so its a chance for them to get to see
the city and the Lower East Side is probably the most New York
in terms of autheniticity, I want to say and history, we have
at least in Manhattan.
