I want you to imagine two different scenarios.
Imagine that a blood transfusion meant survival.
Now, imagine that the family house that you grew up in
burnt down overnight and the only thing left is ashes.
See, these two scenarios go hand-in-hand because the
American Red Cross, whether it's through heroic acts or through
tragedy, has been there for this nation for over 123 years.
Possibly by donating blood and the other by putting families
back on their feet after tragedy.
The two main ways that the American Red Cross has been
there for this nation for so many years is through their
highly successful volunteer programs.
Disasters strike unexpectedly and people are left
picking up the pieces.
That's where the American Red Cross comes in.
We provide shelter, food, water, and health services
to those victims.
Now the other way the American Red Cross has helped out
is by blood donations.
Did you know that every two seconds someone
in this nation needs blood?
And because there is a need for blood,
there is a need for donations.
It is very easy, every day there is a different location where
you could go and donate your blood.
60% of this nation is eligible to donate blood,
unfortunately though, only 5% actually do give.
That's sad statistics if you ask me.
