Highlight text to annotate it

Hello there. In this video we're taking a look at how to add text on top of a video clip in Adobe Premiere Elements 11.
We're looking at a project file with a video clip already on the timeline. We are working in expert view. To to add text on top of this
video clip I will go to the text menu. Click that.
Select new text and then default text.
This opens up the text editor
and the adjustments panel for text. Notice that we have the words add text on top of the video.
This is editable. So when I double click in here I can drag my mouse over
the words add text and start typing.
And next I come over to the adjustments panel to make some changes.
But first I want to point out that I was working in the horizontal type tool mode. We can actually switch to vertical type if you want to text to go
up and down instead of across. I'm going to switch over to the selection tool
so that I don't actually add more text on top of this video.
Click that. Now I can select the text and move it around to reposition it.
I can also use the alignment buttons to place it horizontal center or vertical center.
I can right click on the text to position lower third. Notice that we also have vertical and horizontal
center available. Lower third places it in a very nice place for a text label.
We can adjust the size from the adjustments panel by dragging the slider
or you can also click and type in a number.
We have options to change the text to bold italics or underlin e or use this drop down with additional choices.
We can change the font or even the color by selecting the button for color properties.
Under color properties we can drag the slider to the color range that we're interested in.
And then grab the little circle and move it around until it's positioned
on the color that we like. We also have options for gradient and drop shadow
changing fill and stroke depending on if it's available.
For now I'm just going to cancel.
We can change to style under the adjustments panel and select from among all of the options for predefined styles.
Some of these are pretty nice.
I'm going to select the Adobe Garamond Black.
Notice that that automatically changes the text on top of my video. All I had to do is click on it.
I'm going to go ahead and stay with that.
If I'm interested in animating this text I click the animation button. I can select one of the animations
such as face in by character. When you click the play button on this animation it should give you a preview of that animation.
If I want to apply it I simply click the apply button
and that adds the animation. Once I've previewed it I can always come back and remove the animation if I don't like it.
Now we also have shapes available.
So if you're having a hard time seeing the text on top of the video you can add a shape such as this rounded rectangle.
Drag that across the screen.
then right click arrange send to back to place it below the text.
And that gives you a way of making the text more readable. The color can also be changed on the shape
by using the color properties for that shape. It works exactly the same way
as for the text. Select the color range that you're interested in
and drag the circle until you're happy with it.
I'm going to cancel that. Grab the selection tool.
I don't actually want the shape for this particular
text so I will delete it after I've selected it. So now that I'm finished adjusting my text I think I'll go ahead and close out of this.
I'll click down in the timeline to deselect and close this editor.
I drag the current time indicator across and see my text come on the screen. I can also click the play button.
And there it is. It comes across. Now if I change my mind about something I've done it's not
too late. I simply need to come down to where the title is
on video track two right above my video clip where I've applied it.
Double click on the title item.
That makes it editable again. So now I'm going to remove that animation. So I go up to the
animation button and click remove. I no longer want it.
Otherwise it's good. So I'm going to deselect this again.
And I would really like for this title to stay on the screen longer. So going to select the title on the timeline.
Move my cursor to the end of the tile where it turns into a bracket and drag across to extend it.
Now I have text all the way across the screen.
Notice that this creates a new item in the project assets panel. This is you title.
Well that's all I have for this video. I hope you found the information helpful.
Good luck with your video editing projects and good bye for now.
